Book Graphics
For his paintings i haven’t found one good collection, many sites feature one or two of his paintings but unfortunately rarely more than that. So google images is a good tool for getting an impression.
Because i was odly missing a few gigabytes on my systemdrive and wasn’t able to find the cause with the usual cleanup programs, i turned to some friends and asked for something to help me find the reason.
Oli suggested WinDirStat, which is a really neat little program which visualizes the used up space on your hard drive. Great program. You should try it out.
With it i found a 86gbyte Photoshop Tempfile resting on my harddrive in abount 10seconds.
I’m thinking about booking “holidays” in the dominican republic in july, because that’s where this years urban sketchers symposium will be at. I haven’t been to the first or second, i’m also not that familiar with the urban sketchers community, but i think the symposium would be a good chance to change that.
It will be held from 12.to 14.july 2012, in the city Santo Domingo in the dominican republic. All further infos can be found on the website:

It’s around 1300€ per person for a six nights stay, at least that’s what the german travel sites tell me. Have to think about it a bit more. By that time of the year i guess i might need a week off.

edit: OK, now i listened through the 30mins. There’s basically nothing wrong, but i’m also not very impressed. The kind of information he talks about is available for free and also quite ofen common sense. Instead of spending 57$ on the video (so far there hasn’t been any reason for it being a video instead of a podcast anyways) you could as well register at one of the large community sites like conceptart.org, digitalartforum.de, cgsociety, deviantart etc. and connect to other artists. Try to learn if there’s a local meetup of artists, go the your local scetchcrawl event and speak to other artists or just reach out via e-mail to professional artists. Quite often you’ll get a nice response.
Sorry, no 57$ from me. Don’t think it’s worth my money & time.
I get more out of escapefromillustrationisland,an audible registration and listening through Linchpin and the harvard business review.
I didn’t know Leopold Schmutzler until today but i was immediately caught by his intense semi-erotic paintings. Brief research didn’t turn up much info on him, have to look into him further possibly by actually going to a library.
He lived and worked in austria and germany until 1940 and i guess it didn’t help his reputation that he was put onto the infamous “Gottbegnadeten”-list – the list of artists that were in favor of the Nazis and were therefore spared from military service or pursuit.
I’ll search for more infos on him and see if i can digg up a larger gallery of his works or even a book.
This TED talks is for the concept artists.
James H Kunstler explains how the design of public spaces reflects the culture of its inhabitants. In his talk he goes into extremes to make a point, but still it is a good and quite funny talk.
This talk has influenced my understanding of concept art and what a concept artist should think about more than any artbook or workshop.

WiPNation is a site dedicated to giving and recieving critique to get better with your painting/drawing/designing skills. Personally i haven’t had any experience with it yet, it’s still on my “have to check it out”-list.
As every community it’s quality depends vastly on the members, and the number of the members. There are a few quite good artists active on WiPnation, but also quite often you won’t get so much response. I guess “you do me and i do you” also applies to this site. So be sure to comment on others works as well if you’re trying to get some feedback for your stuff.
I’m currently listening to this and having tons of fun with it. I’d agree to illustrate a comic from that any time.
It’s a story about monsters, gun nutted americans, very manly characters – male & female, and just too much fun to stop listening.
Oh, and of course nazi vampires! how could i forget about those.

“I got into Hip Hop young and easily since a lot of my older cousins were teenagers during the 90s. Some even were breakers, turntablist, and taggers. I started out with breaking, but gave that up for a set of turntables. I was always interested in the beat making process since i’ve been a fan of old records but my interest really grew as i started DJing. I didn’t seriously think of making beats till after I heard Nujabes when I was about 16, Hearing his songs and the very moving melodies with the boom bap drums of the golden era, really inspired me. I worked part time jobs and bought my own MPC when I was 18 and since then I’ve been trying to make beats and find my ‘sound’.”
