Ludovico Marchetti

Damn. So good. Just .. awesome.

more on Othello is to be found on this great blog

For his paintings i haven’t found one good collection, many sites feature one or two of his paintings but unfortunately rarely more than that. So google images is a good tool for getting an impression.

Ludwig Hohlwein

I first stumpled upon Ludwig Hohlwein while doing research for my diploma. I did a Travelposter-inspired series of illustrations based on the song “Monkey & Bear” by Joanna Newsom.
There are a lot of illustrators who have done great poster work, but none other was as influental at least to me, as Ludwig Hohlwein. I fell for his combination of strong, bold colors to sepearate for- and background and his mastery of shape & form. Even though often working with only limited colors, his pictures communicate strong moods and are perfectly readable.

Roberto Freire

If it wasn’t for Roberto, i probably wouldn’t make a living from drawing. Not just did he first explain to me the numbers that i would have to achieve once i’m out of school. More importantly he taught me that if you want to be good at something, it being drawing, painting, design, whatever – it’s all just practise.
Roberto himself is a very good artist, caricaturist and absolute do-gooder.

Oh and he painted a portrait of me once. Not his best work but that’s because of the subject, not because of him. I included it in the work samples.

Igino

Currently as active on the web as a dodo but Igino has been and still is a source of inspireation for me and i have learned a great deal from him in our conversations.

You can hardly call it a portfolio site.
A really old interview with him on epilogue.
Some early card game art he did (Scroll down a bit to see the opened menu).
He’s currently working at Splash Damage.

Henrik Fetz

Henrik is the artist that possibly had the most influences on me regarding my drawings. Besides Roberto i owe him the most because he has ever so often helped my with feedback and overpaints and is still one of the guys that i look up to and try to “compete” against.
